Rodrigo F. Pereira on the jury of the Bornancini Award 2022

Rodrigo F. Pereira, founding partner of BR/BAUEN, sits this year on the jury of the Bornancini Design Award, organised by APDesign, the association of design professionals of Rio Grande do Sul and the first design association in Brazil.

Created in 2006 and held every two years, the award reaches its ninth edition in 2022 and has a national scope, with categories ranging from branding and graphic design to product, packaging, environments, fashion and digital, in professional and student tracks. The award describes itself as a celebration of projects that unite creativity, innovation and positive impact: solutions that go beyond aesthetics and help transform society.

The name honours José Carlos Bornancini (1923-2008), a designer from Rio Grande do Sul and one of the great references of Brazilian design. In partnership with Nelson Ivan Petzold, Bornancini developed more than 200 products for industry, from agricultural machinery to household goods. The Camping cutlery, created for Hercules, has been in the permanent collection of MoMA, in New York, since 1973.

Sitting on the jury of an award with this history is also a responsibility: helping to define what is recognised as top-level work in Brazilian design, with judgement, repertoire and attention to what each project delivers beyond its form. That is the measure Rodrigo brings to judging the entries of the 2022 edition.
